As already happened in the past, even this 2020 opens – by Huawei – with a “re-release”. The Chinese company has in fact presented the new Huawei P30 Lite New Edition which evokes in all respects the device already known in 2019 (here the complete review), but with increased memories. The new device offers the same hardware compartment, but with the addition of 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory. Will this improvement have the expected effect on the overall economy of the device? Find out in our full review.

Design and build quality:
Huawei P30 Lite New Edition follows the aesthetic lines already seen on the predecessor. We therefore find a particularly compact device compared to the current average, with a 6.15 ″ display set in 152.9 x 72.7 x 7.4 mm and a weight of 159 grams.
Unlike the other devices in the P30 range, the device in question uses less premium materials: we find a glass back cover accompanied by a plastic frame. Despite the use of plastic, we still find a pleasant aesthetic result and – given the presence of the materials mentioned above – we still find a low weight that helps the handle, even with one hand, of the device.
P30 Lite Display:
The device in review opts for an IPS Full HD + display from 6:15 ” characterized by the presence of the notch to drop and which occupies a large part of the front surface, about 84%.
Despite the absence of the AMOLED panel (now trendy on most devices), we still find an excellent result given by bright colors and a significant contrast. More generally, the colors are well balanced and also the defect common to the IPS displays, relating to the tendency to cold shades, is not particularly accentuated in this case.
Thanks to the adaptive brightness sensor, in addition, you will have the opportunity to always fully enjoy the display and you will not have any problems of using the device even in direct sunlight. A clear and reliable panel, precisely this latter prerogative is found in daily use. In fact, the touch screen of the device – in the weeks of use – has always been reactive and ready for stress.
Hardware and performance:
The real change of this device is given by the increase in RAM and internal memory. Huawei P30 Lite New Edition in fact presents a hardware compartment practically identical to the predecessor, with Kirin 710, 12 nm Octa-Core SoC (4 × 2.2 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4 × 1.7 GHz Cortex-A53) and Mali-G51 MP4 GPU. The only differences, as already mentioned, reside in the 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory which replaces the previous 4/128 GB. To the already large 256 GB memory is added the possibility of increasing the storage of another 512 GB through the use of the external microSD.
Although the device is new, the Kirin 710 is a SoC already known and seen on the medium range throughout 2019 during which we learned about its strengths and weaknesses: we are in the presence of a processor so reliable, but with some limitations from the point from a performance point of view.
With this in mind, the presence of the 6 GB of RAM introduced with the 2020 variant of the P30 Lite, offer an interesting starting point. In everyday use, even stress, of the device, I have not encountered – in fact – particular problems and slowdowns of any kind, even though using apps and games that are expensive from the point of view of performance. We can say with certainty that the model in question overcomes the “limits” revealed in the past, thanks to the additions in terms of memories.
Benchmark – Huawei P30 Lite 2020
On the new Huawei home device, we find the EMUI 9.0.1 based on Android 9 Pie which, as we often repeat, is particularly invasive in any type of operation and setting. In the settings menu, among the most particular items we still find digital management, which monitors our activities by limiting the use of the smartphone. Inside the Display you can then manage the apps that do not have access to full screen viewing, as well as change the temperature of the screen, activate Eye Protection or set the panel resolution. As on other terminals in the house, moreover, you will have the right to decide whether to keep the notch or hide it.
Among the peculiarities of Huawei devices, we also find the possibility of accessing full screen gestures, particularly comfortable also in this case. More precisely, just swipe the side edges to go back, a long swipe from the bottom to the top to access the menu of open apps and a quick one to return to the home.
In addition, despite the notch you will not have any problem to consult the new notifications, since the latter will be repeated on the left portion of the bar at the top. As always, the EMUI is divisive: if on the one hand it offers the user many ideas for customization, on the other it may seem, in some cases, even too invasive. However, there is to recognize the general optimization and the simplification work that makes each type of feature easily accessible
In the last year the attention to the photographic sector, even of the medium range devices, is high. Huawei P30 Lite New Edition in this sense is no less and has a triple main compartment consisting of a sensor from 48 mega-pixels with aperture f /1.8, wide angle from 8 mega-pixels and sensor dedicated to the depth from 2 mega-pixels with focal aperture f /2.0. On the front we find a selfie camera from 24 mega-pixels with focal aperture f / 2.0.
As for the main sector, we have to divide the judgment into two tranches. While during the day, in fact, the device manages to give its best, even with a careful application of both the HDR and the AI that contribute to improving the yield of the shots, at night or in low light conditions, the sensors reveal some limits.
Clearly the limits mentioned involve excessive background noise and an unbalanced rendering of the colors that tend to go out. In this sense, it helps the night mode which offers pleasant shots even if a steady hand must be accompanied at high exposure times, otherwise you risk having blurred images.
What has been said for the main camera – as often happens – is also confirmed for the front. The module from 24 mega-pixels in fact will grant very good shots in optimal light situations, with a laudable software work also for the use of the Bokeh effect in trimming the subjects. At the same time, the photos at night reach the sufficiency in a few occasions, even taking advantage of the front flash, i.e. the illumination of the screen.
Huawei P30 Lite New Edition then allows you to record videos in 1080p and up to 60 fps, with an optimal yield, however, at 30 fps, since in doing so you can draw on the wide angle and digital stabilization.
P30 Lite Battery:
The device boasts a 3340 mAh battery and confirms the good things shown by the predecessor and, in this sense, it must be said that Huawei devices in recent years have reached excellent standards in terms of autonomy.

Numbers in hand, the device will always be able to take you to the end of the day and, in situations of scarce use, it will also accompany you for 48 hours, reaching about 6.30 hours of display on with more intense use. Thanks to the 18W quick charge, you will be able to charge the device in just over 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Connectivity and audio quality:
Huawei P30 Lite New Edition is ready in this respect. In fact, we find the presence of Bluetooth 4.2, X HD, FM Radio, Wi-Fi Dual Band, GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS and BDS, NFC and USB Type-C 1.0. At the same time, we note the presence of the 3.5 mm jack input.
If from a connectivity point of view the device is valid, the audio performance is not exactly optimal. You will not find any problem in terms of reception or in telephone calls, however the sound produced is not balanced and the problem is most noticeable when listening to music.
Price and conclusions:
We opened this review by remembering that this device – Huawei P30 Lite New Edition – is in all respects a reissue of the device seen in 2019. The device is available on the market, starting today, at $388 USD in the Peacock Blue colors and Midnight Black.
Without doubt it is a particularly balanced device that manages to offer quality and quantity at the same time. However, despite the improvements implemented from the point of view of memories, it cannot be considered a best buy and among the causes there is also the list price, perhaps too high but which will surely fall short in the street price. By purchasing the device from the official store from 9 January to 9 February, however, you can benefit from an incentive: you will receive the Huawei Freelace in-ear Bluetooth earphones with a value of $110 USD as a gift.
