Which is why this Huawei Nova 5T Review respects these principles, showing itself as a compact and well-built phone. Will he have succeeded, however, in easily overcoming all our tests? How will he have behaved in everyday use? Do we find Google services on board? Let’s find out better together, in our full review .

Taking a look at the sales package we do not find different elements than the standard. This presents, in fact, Huawei Nova 5T Review a completely white surface, with the smartphone logo on the front and little information on the device on the back. Inside, they then find space:
- Huawei Nova 5T;
- USB cable / USB Type-C;
- wall power supply with European socket;
- over-ear headphones with USB Type-C input;
- short instruction manual;
- pin for the SIM slot.
Design & Materials: Huawei Nova 5T Review
From an aesthetic point of view, as already stated in the preview video, this smartphone is exactly the same as Honor 20 . It seems strange to say but, comparing the measurements, and also the technical specifications, the difference between these two devices is reduced to a couple of details. Despite this, Huawei Nova 5T has dimensions of 154.25 x 73.97 x 7.87 mm thick, for a weight of only 174 grams. Above all the latter, therefore, provides the measure of how easy this device is. By exploiting it in everyday life, in fact, it is possible to grip well in any situation and, thanks to its not too generous dimensions, one-handed use is facilitated.
The entire front surface, as well as the rear one, is made of glass. On the back, then, we find four different cameras of which only three are set inside a photographic module not perfectly flush with Huawei Nova 5T Review the body. This component, in fact, protrudes at least one millimeter with respect to the profile of the device. Despite this, with the use of a special silicone cover , this step is completely eliminated. Around the device, however, we have a shiny metal structure, the same color as the device, which has a pleasant to the touch but not very ergonomic feel.
On the right profile we have the on / off button , which includes the fingerprint reader, and the volume rocker . On the left side, instead, there is space for the SIM slot, which can simultaneously contain two nano-SIM cards . Looking at the upper profile, then, we have the secondary microphone for suppressing ambient noise, while at the bottom there is the main speaker , the USB Type-C 2.0 input and the main microphone .
We have had the Black version under test but, on the market, you can also find the Crush Blue and Midsummer Purple model, the most intriguing of the three available.
Onboard this device is a 6.26-inch diagonal LCD IPS display , with FHD + resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels) and a very high screen-to-body-ratio. As we can see from the images, in fact, this panel has a hole for the front camera, a 32-megapixel module with f / 2.0 aperture. Despite being, however, a simple IPS matrix unit, the quality returned is truly remarkable. All colors,in fact, they are lively, although at different angles of the device these tend to slightly change their nature. Especially with blacks and whites, the first problems are evident, with the first ones being really shallow and the whites slightly tending to yellow.
Like on Honor 20, I confirm the quality of this panel from almost all points of view. Under direct sunlight, for example, it is possible to enjoy an excellent automatic brightness , a sign that the relative sensor does its job well. Also the touch screen panel has always proved very responsive, allowing me to make few mistakes even in the most agitated writing phases. We are not in the presence of the most oleophobic glass in circulation but, however, we can be satisfied even from this point of view. Watch a video on YouTube, make a story on Instagram, watch a TV series on Netflix they are all operations that do not conflict with the hole for the front camera. Although this is officially the first Huawei-branded device to implement this feature, it probably enjoys the experience already gained in this field by Honor.
Hardware & Performance:
Huawei Nova 5T is equipped with a HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC, therefore an octa-core CPU with a 2 x Cortex-A76 configuration of 2.6 GHz + 2 x Cortex-A76 of 1.92 GHz + 4 x Cortex-A55 of 1.8 GHz This is accompanied, then, by a Mali-G76 GPU with a frequency of 720 MHz and by two NPUs, for the control of some functionalities related to artificial intelligence.Huawei Nova 5T Review Onboard, moreover, there is space for a 6GB RAM and a 128GB internal memory . We are therefore in the presence of a telephone that can easily be considered a top of the range in this respect.
If we have to analyze the performances we cannot but remain satisfied by this technology sector. With Kirin 980 it is really difficult to go wrong and, in fact, this device shows all its speed in every operation, even the most energy-intensive ones. Navigating through the menus, as well as within the individual applications, is a simple and fast operation. After all the experience accumulated in this field, therefore, Huawei certainly does not lose enamel with this device, showing performance almost equal to those of the current top range. The whole system runs very well and this, probably, is given by the fact that the RAM always remains quite free. Indeed, Huawei tends to maintain a rather conservative profile at the level of consumption, which is why there are not many applications open in the background.
At a gaming level this smartphone has nothing to envy to other high-end devices. With Call of Duty Mobile , therefore, you can play high details without any problems, not showing any important lag or frame drop. Even from this point of view, therefore, the experience with Huawei Nova 5T was satisfactory. Only after several tens of minutes at a brisk pace do you begin to feel a slight warmth on the back of the device.
Benchmark: Huawei Nova 5T Review
It would be almost superfluous to still mention the software installed on the Nova 5T, but it is still necessary to do so even for an important reason. Unlike what everyone believed in the beginning, in fact, Google’s services are located onboard this device. These are pre-installed and, therefore, coexist as usual with the EMUI 9.1.0 based on Android 9 Pie . As assumed in the preview video, however, this device was announced before the controversy of the US ban.
Despite all this software is confirmed as one of the most complete and mature in the Huawei Nova 5T Review Android interface customization landscape. In fact, even at the service level, we already have a series of pre-installed system applications (not Google) that are the envy of many other mobile systems. I continue to argue, therefore, that this terminal integrates very well with the entire system and everything runs rather smoothly. There are, as always, the system gestures to move between the various menus, as well as some items in the settings that for some time we find on all Huawei terminals, and not only. These include the Digital Management, which keeps track of our use of the device by signaling us when we use the phone too much in the course of a day, and the Optimizer application that checks that everything is optimized to the fullest.
Camera: Huawei Nova 5T Review
Huawei Nova 5T presents a configuration, at a photographic level, not entirely new in the current smartphone landscape. On the rear part, in fact, there is a main sensor Sony IMX586 from 48 mega-pixels with an aperture f / 1.8, a second lens wide-angle from 16 mega-pixels with an aperture f / 2.2, one dedicated to the capture of the depth of field from 2 megapixel with f / 2.4 aperture and the last one, dedicated to macros, of 2 mega-pixels with f / 2.2 aperture. Then we have the PDAF autofocus, led flash, and AIS stabilization .
When photos are taken in conditions of good brightness we can achieve the best results. Thanks to the main sensor, in fact, a fair color fidelity is maintained, with a good level of detail. I must admit, however, that on lower-end devices I could see the better overall quality in this last aspect. Despite this, when the AI is used, the saturation is greater, and all the parts involved return a higher vivacity to the chromatic level. With the wide-angle lens, then, you will be able to cover a larger area, without losing much in terms of quality. I must say that, in this case, the second sensor behaves much better than the competition in this price range. When we go to use the 2x zoom instead, we can notice an important change in colors compared to the original shot.
I said I also take some macros with the product, thus taking advantage of the third lens of this smartphone. It will be possible, therefore, to go very close to the selected subject, being able to enjoy a surely sufficient quality. I remind you, however, that this lens is not stabilized optically and this, in some situations, can create some focusing problems.
During the night, this sector loses some quality. There is no perfect artificial light management and these tend to burn the surrounding area slightly too much. Despite this, a good contrast is proposed and the black color of the sky is really very deep. Obviously the situation is completely changed when using the night mode, offering better contrast, sharper photos, and excellent light management. Even with the use of the wide-angle sensor, there is no particular loss of detail.
Taking a look at photos taken by selfies Room from 32 megapixels, with f / 2.0 aperture. One might say that these are valid even for a social use Huawei Nova 5T Review. This sensor never gets in trouble, even when there are strong contrasts in the background, managing to illuminate our face well. The same applies also at night. I was, then, satisfied with the bokeh effect , which manages to cut out the face well, almost without large burrs.
I want to talk about this sector separately, which is always part of the sector dedicated to photography. Taking a look at the clips that I could shoot in this test period, it is clear that Huawei has worked well at the stabilization leveL. Especially when using 1080p at 60fps. The whole image does not undergo particular distortions and the returned effect is really excellent. When you change rooms, for example using a wide-angle camera, switching is not as smooth as you’d expect, but even in this case, you can remain more than satisfied with the result.
I remind you, however, that you can also record in 4K at 30fps and, in this case, you notice a less fluidity in the image and a slightly worse stabilization (always of EIS type ). In terms of focus, then, there are no particular problems to report, showing a fluid in both 1080p and 4K.
Audio & Connectivity:
Huawei Nova 5T does not have a stereo sound, so the only source from which we can listen to our favorite songs is the system speaker at the bottom. This presents a discreet power, although the low frequencies are not too marked. Overall, however, you can enjoy a fairly full-bodied sound. Obviously with the use of good Huawei Nova 5T Review quality earphones the situation improves considerably. With those included, however, it remains on a fairly mediocre level. These, I remind you, are an over-ear model and already feature the USB Type-C connector. In case you are interested, however, in the latter case there are various Bluetooth codecs, then SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, LDAC, and HWA Audio.
During calls the sound is good, without any disturbances or line interruptions. I did not find any problems even with the various interlocutors with whom I conversed, who have always said they feel good, even in slightly more crowded places. From my point of view, however, the volume is good and also the reception.
From the point of view of connectivity, on this smartphone we have Wi-Fi a / b / g / n / ac Dual Band MiMo, Bluetooth 5.0 , NFC. There is also support for two nano-SIM cards with 4G +, which has not caused me any problems during these weeks. The same goes for all the other modules, with Wi-Fi that offers excellent coverage. Bluetooth that interfaces quickly with any type of accessory and satellite navigation. Which, although not really lightning fast in the hooking of satellites, manages to satisfy fully during the journey.
Battery:Huawei Nova 5T Review
On this smartphone, there is a 3750 mah battery, which represents the real added value of this device. After a few days, in fact, you will be able to reach already 6 hours of the active screen over a whole day. Without any kind of active energy saving. In my case, for example. I used Wi-Fi and 4G + in a mixed way, keeping all the sensors active, as well as Bluetooth and GPS.
Thanks to Huawei SuperCharge. then, you can take advantage of the power supply in the package to pass, in about an hour, from 10 to 100%.
Price & Conclusions:
Huawei Nova 5T Review is currently sold at the list price of $479 USD. If you go to the Huawei Experience Store before November 12th. You will also be able to get the FreeBuds Lite, a personalized cover with the. Nova logo and a sweatshirt, always with the Nova logo. On all other stores, however, the figure is $479 USD. In my opinion, these are absolutely not too many for what is offered. You just have to face the fact that this device already exists on our market, so the choice is yours. If you are interested in bringing home some Huawei brand accessories, take advantage of the offer above.
This smartphone remains, however, a true top of the range at a truly incredible figure. In case you were looking for a fairly compact device, with good autonomy, with excellent performance and a good photographic. Industry, the choice would surely fall on Huawei Nova 5T Review.
